WhyNot, that’s great news! I know it’s scary to bring a baby home, but you’ll be fine!
I took her Amby motion bed into the hospital today to try her out in it while she’s still on the monitors. She. Loved. It. When I walked in, she was sort of futzing about in her crib, not really sleeping all that soundly. “She’s always dreaming!” the nurses tell me. “She’s moving and grimacing and her eyes flutter open.”
Put her in the motion bed and ZONK. Out like a light. No movement, no eyes fluttering. It was the soundest anyone has ever seen her sleep. Her breathing was fine, her oxygen levels were at 100%.
There were nurses and doctors and even secretaries stopping by to see her “weird hippie bed.” They all thought it was a great idea. A couple of them were momentarily concerned that the soft sides might pose a suffocation hazard, but I pointed them to the studies on the website. One doc even *tried *to get her little face smooshed into the fabric, to see if she could get her air supply cut off, but as soon as he let her go, she’d roll right back into the middle of the bed, as designed.
So a HUGE thank you to you Dopers who recommended the bed. It’s going to work wonderfully!
I am incredibly happy for you, Caileigh, and your family. What a sweetie!
Woohoo! That IS good news! I can certainly understand your being delighted and terrified all at the same time but this too shall pass. Once you get that little punkin home, you’ll feel a whole lot better than having to leave her every day.
I’ll be praying for a boring routine in short order!
Congratulations! I’m delighted for you all!
Please may we have some new photos? Pretty please?
Oh, I suppose.
There’s more up at the yahoo site, including my favorite one! She’s laughing at her brother.
(Sorry, quite a few of them are pretty dark because we’re not using a flash around her yet and I haven’t had time to digitally edit the pics.)
I saw that in the Monkey Boy thread but didn’t pay attention to who the poster was. All I know is I thought, “Now that’s a classic picture”. Great kid
I’m so happy for you! I’m glad everything seems to be working out well. My best wishes go out to you, Caileigh and the whole family.
I am so happy to hear how well your little one is doing!
That’s great.
Awee, how cute! Add me to the list of people glad to see your family doing so well.
Looking forward to stories of her being a good girl and a bad one.
So where’s the picture of Calleigh? I see a cute jowly baby- not the wee tiny lass from the hospital!G
Congrats! YAY FOR CALLEIGH!
She’s coming home today!!!
dance of joy
After rounds this morning, Caileigh Morgan will finally be coming home with us. We’re so mind-bogglingly excited (and terrified, still terrified). WhyKid asked to skip half a day of school to come along and videotape, so of course we’re letting him. Poor guy’s put up with a heck of a lot for three and a half months. So he’ll go in for math and science and sewing and bug out before reading.
I’ve been shuffling through all her clothes at home (she’s been wearing hospital-issued clothes until now) like an OCD patient before a blind date. I’m bringing two outfits, because I don’t know what will fit her. She’s sort of in-between premie and newborn sizes right now. (She’s probably coming home in one of Tinkleberry’s old outfits, which makes me very happy!)
My only complaint is that they won’t let us take her carseat and put it into the car first. We have to strap her into it in the NICU and carry her down in it. This wouldn’t be a big deal if it was one of those little carrying carseats which snaps into a base, but this is the big honkin’ 3 in 1 carseat that needs to be in place before you can strap it in. So we have to put her in it, carry her (a long way!) to the exit and out the door, then take her back out of it and hold her in the rain while we figure out how to strap the thing in. WTF? She has to exit the hospital IN the car seat.
Might I mention how one-size fits all policies drive me nuts?
Still, it’s a small price to pay for actually having her home. WhyKid will just have to juggle the camera and an umbrella!
That is the best news!!! I’m so happy for all of you! Happy Homecoming and I hope you post tons of pictures of the Homecoming Queen!
ooh, I’m dizzy. I think I ODed on the exclamation points…
Congratulations!
I’m really happy for all of you.
I remember the “can we re-cycle a name” thread, from before she was born, and have been following this thread since her birth.
It’s really nice to see how well she looks, I’m so pleased for all of the Whynot Family. You have a beautiful daughter, with a beautiful name!
Yippee!!! The best news I’ve heard in a long time. Congratulations!
Far out! that is sooooo awesome. I can imagine how you must feel to get her home.
Hey! Congratualtions on your newish baby!!
She’s lovely! That photo is the best… Heartfelt congratulations on getting her home. Phew!
Who’s that pretty girl?
Oh, Whynot --she is beautiful. I am so happy for all of you.
Teary eyed here near Chicago, and thinking of you as you adjust to things at home.
Couple of questions:
Whykid takes sewing? How cool is that?
Does Calleigh have a sleep apnea monitor? How is she feeding? Is the tube out for feedings? Where is she developementally now (newborn-ish or 27+however many weeks?).
It’s been a long hard slog for all. I hope there is much joy and peace as well.
I don’t have kids and don’t plan to, but this entire thread has had me on my toes ever since I suscribed here. I am so happy - and teary eyed - that Calleigh is home! Hope everything continues to progress smoothly - or as smoothly as can reasonably be expected.
If things go too smoothly, that’s when I start to worry.
