Yes, utterly Mundane and Pointless, except if you’re one of the 12,000+ page views her original saga recieved. So I feel justified in posting what would otherwise be a wholy self absorbed masturbatory post, in the hopes that someone else out there will be happy with the news.
Little Caileigh Morgan is one year old today!
While it’s not a word I use lightly, she really is a miracle. There have been no (knockonwood, praiseallah, injesus’name) long term problems due to her extreme prematurity. Her hearing and vision all checks normally, her physical, emotional and cognitive development is right on track.
She’s just started crawling, and has been cruising for a few weeks (holding onto the couch and walking sideways). She’s eating food (loves her peas and carrots, not so crazy about the green beans). She’s saying “Ma-Ma”, but only when she’s mad at me. She’s just so amazingly…normal!
Wow! Happy Birthday Whybaby! Felicitations to the Whyfamily. I’m glad she’s doing so very well. She’s beautiful.
Anecdote: I had a friend in school who was a preemie, she was so embarassed in Middle School, because she didn’t have her cycle the same year everyone else started, and knew she wouldn’t. (It was years for her, and she wouldn’t believe I was a little envious that she had a freedom I didn’t.) She was short, like me, and had a slender build. (In my class five feet four inches tall was short, which we both were.) You really couldn’t tell she had been a preemie just by watching her, the only possible indicator was she was a delicate beauty, but even non-preemies can be tiny.
She is still teeny tiny. Only 16 pounds and about 27 inches! But growing and healthy, so I’m happy. She’s still in 6-9 month clothes, much to the consternation of well-wishers who sent her gifts in 12 months size!
has it been a year already? Participating in that thread made me really feel a part of the bb here–and I got to know some folks as well. So, lil whybaby is a bit special to me.
She is so tiny! (my kids weighed in as newborns at: 8lbs 11oz; 10lbs 4oz; and 9lbs 10 oz. With lengths of 20, 22, and 21"! My middle kid never wore newborn stuff.
She is quite animated and interested in life, no? That comes thru in the pics–I love the one of her on the couch (I have similiar pics).
I see whykid is a great helper as well.
Warms the heart on a cold February day. Thanks.
She’s just beautiful **WhyNot **and after following her story from the beginning, I’m so glad to hear how well she’s doing. I think we all feel like we know her - and you - so well even though we’re all just internet strangers. I’m just so glad the story had a happy ending.
Happy Birthday Whybaby and congratulations on making it through the first year Whynot I’m so happy that things are progressing well for her. Cool.
I just read somewhere (I think Yahoo News) an article stating that as adults preemies were no different than their full term peers. She’s catching up pretty fast (and already cuter than all the rest so she’s got that going on).
