Happy birthday, Caileigh, and I’m jealous of your boots. Have fun learning the bass!
(It can’t possibly be ten years already, can it?)
WhyNot, I wasn’t around for the start of this thread, but all I can say is that this is just wonderful. Life is a powerful, powerful force, and Caileigh seems to be packed full of it. Huge Happy Birthdays to you, to Caileigh, and to WhyDad.
I didn’t look at the date of the OP, and was ready to post about “hanging in there”. But you’ve done that already, and the little sprout is fine, at ten years old.
Thank God for modern medicine!
Well that 10 years flashed by in the blink of an eye.
Of course the story of Caleigh’s dramatic entrance in the world stands out in my memory because it’s one of those stories that honestly didn’t seem like it would have a happy ending until it did. Who ever heard of a micro, micro preemie like your 23 weeker living? But she did, and that is a wondrous, amazing thing. Happy birthday, Caleigh, and many, many more
Happy birthday to Calleigh!
One of my IRL friends had a 26-week preemie; she went into labor for still-unknown reasons and they couldn’t stop it. This 2-pound baby girl will be 20 in April, and lives a completely normal life.
Happy birthday, from one girl bass player to another. Tell her to go for it! Nothing says “badass” like hauling a bass around your high school’s corridors.
I was here for the beginning of this thread. Lord, how time flies.
(They do start with 1/2 size basses for 1/2 size people, don’t they? Like violins? Because I can’t see her having much range on that thing until her arms grow a bit! )
To everyone noting how fast 10 years flew: you’re telling me?!
Oh, and I still have Tinkleberry’s onesie, which was indeed the one she wore home from the hospital. I know inkleberry isn’t around anymore, but it really meant so much when she sent me a box of his preemie clothes. Really, all of the support and advice and well-wishes and mailed baby blankets and such meant so much. I don’t know how I would have gotten through it without y’all.
Yes. I believe there are 1/4 size basses. Comparable to a cello.
From the OP:
But clearly a wise choice.
So, I come in to say Happy Birthday, Calleigh, and that I remember her arrival & all the concern here.
And I see the last post before WhyNot’s return was me asking for an update in June of 2005.
Boy, you jumped right on that, dint ya? ;D
I, unlike my daughter, am a master of procrastination.
It was lovely, and timely, to read your story (and Caleigh’s) today. My first grandbaby, a boy, was born at 25 weeks on Jan 19, 2015. He was 3 weeks old yesterday and is now 2 lbs 6 oz. He’s had some challenges in his tiny life and has many more to come, we know. But he’s a fighter and so far he has made it through all the bad things that have come his way.
I sincerely hope that 10 years from today I’ll be coming back to let folks know that he is a healthy, happy, thriving child, too.
Congratulations on yours!
Congratulations, stillownedbysetters! That’s my son’s birthday, too!
Thank you, Whynot. Jan 19th is clearly a great day for a boy to be born!
I simply cannot believe it’s been ten years! That’s just… I mean, surely it hasn’t been ten years?!
What a great thread update!
It reminds me, though to a lesser degree, of my own family situation. My child was born full term (I announced his birth here on the Dope), but because of some issues he had to stay a few days in the NICU before we could take him home.
Well, he is now a five year old boy, almost ready to start kindergarten, just the healthiest and happiest little kid you could imagine.
Amazing update! It blows my mind to think that I was around for the original unfolding of the saga. Ten years on one website??
