Eminem and MTV

I was talking to Threll today and he said something particularly appropriate-
“Kid rock is an example of what happens when you drop out of high school and smoke crack. Eminem is an example of what happens when you stay in and smoke crack”

I am not sure if Kid Rock did drop out of high school, but I thought it was a nice response to what people are listening to these days.

Ok, I’m gonna buck the trend a little here. I don’t have a problem with Slim. I am a musician and I respect other musicians. Eminem does have good vocal rhythm. To be honest, I don’t care for his music too much, but I don’t mind hearing him every once and a while on the radio.

Don’t blame the artist, blame MTV. Like eight years ago MTV was da shit, but now it sucks. That TRL thing makes me gag! MTV nowadays is just a clusterfuck. “MTV X” is cool though, if you get satillite TV.

Eminem is in the spotlight now…but the fad will go away soon.

I really like Eminem. And I dont like any new Rap but him.

Everyone interested, here is the link for the MTV “You Tell Us” page: http://www.mtv.com/nav/intro_news.html

They didn’t use my letter! :frowning:

On a lighter note, I encourage all of you to read Mallory’s letter, the last one on the right-hand side. Apparentely Mallory has a teeny-weeny little peanut brain:

Hey IDIOT! Eminem gets arrested BECAUSE HE HAD A GUN! It’s not illegal to kiss someone, but it is illegal to carry a concealed ASSULT WEAPON- LOADED OR NOT. And what was that “schooled” stuff? Were you trying to write “could?” I know it’s hard baby, keep trying. Writing is very difficult indeed.

Also, Jaimie from Seattle comments that Eminem did what was normal and should be viewed as a human who made a mistake.

Hey IDIOT! That’s the point!! If anyone else had been caught with and assult weapon, jail would be a sure thing. But because this is Eminem, he might get off. It’s OJ all over again. He is a human (I think) and a criminal, and should be treated like both regardless of his fame.

Obed observes in his missive that Eminem should dump Kim. All in all, a good observation, but still…

HE sang about killing her. He obviously has no respect for her. She allegedly kissed a man, who knows what really happened? It was a BAR, people were drinking. Eminem should not have gone all wacky with his weapon, which is the FREAKING POINT!

Mother of God, people can be idiots.

Also, I must say that it amuses me how Eminem resents that he is included in the boygroup thing because he came out at the same time. I mean, if that’s what the teenyboppers wanna hear (and I bet half of those albums went to suburban white teenagers), then you are part of that. Inner-city hoodlums and gangsters did not buy 1.7 million of your albums, bozo, so have a little appreciation for the people who did.

I believe his mother smoke crack. How else would this little booger turn out to be so ridiculous? She must have been shooting up heroin while she was pregnant too.

not a very bright bunch of individuas to say the least. but neither is eminem/slim whatever. shit, it’s entertainment at it’s lowest level, and there you see all the entertainees, at the lowest levels…

Boy, I’m glad I’m an old crock and had better music to listen to when I was a kid–not much better, but STILL. I envy the even older crocks who got to grow up to Glenn Miller, Cab Calloway; Cole Porter and Irving Berlin.

I feel sorry for kids today, who don’t know there’s anything else, because this crap is all they’re exposed to–sure, some of y’all branch out to different kinds of music, but this is what your friends listen to, this is what you’re exposed to in your everyday life. I don’t blame you; everyone is pretty much doomed to be part of their own generation.

I’m just glad I’ll be dead in a few years, before things degenerate even more . . . I shudder to think what “popular music” will sound like in another 50 or 100 years.

I read some of these lyrics-and yes, I studied music, so I know how different words on a page are compared to words set to music-but I gotta say that if somebody gave or sent out those lyrics, they could probably get arrested. Instead, people pay money for it. Wow.
And I can remember when my mom freaked out at my first KISS album.

Thank you so much for saying that. (well not the part about the BSB but whatever) It drives me nuts that most of the people I know think me crazy for liking the BSB. (Which btw my enjoyment of them has cooled considerably since I bought their Millenium CD and then discovered a lovely Rock station. I still enjoy their music just not at the same level as before) Even supposedly the Rock I listen to isn’t all that popular either. (Some like Creed and such)

Now about Eminem… I don’t listen to his music that much. (Actually only one song The Real Slim Shady and thats it) I’m not one for rap music. (Hell I only like Will Smith and most don’t consider him real rap) I think its sad the way our music is denegrating into one big free for all about how much we hate each other and the world. Have we really fallen so low as to encourage this? Yes I understand freedom of speech and all that and I don’t believe media is responsible (completely) for the degeneration of our youth. (I’m youth and I don’t think its harmed me. It depends a lot on the limits parents will put on their kids and how involved they are… but that is a whole other thread) Its his music but I hope it will die a quick and painful (very painful I don’t want it to go down painlessly that would just be sad) death. I also hope he doesn’t squirm his way out of the gun charges. Yes he provides for his kid but it takes a LOT more then that to make a good father.

I think I’d better stop now before I go off on a whole other tangent and toss this whole thread offtrack.

(I hope this doesn’t post twice…)
I just told my 12 yr old son that he could NEVER own that CD. He whined at me whhhyyy? I think I’ll show him this thread the next time I see him.
It occurred to me as I hung up the phone that his reaction is precisely why bad shit happens in our schools. He is a bright kid, good student, good athlete but he couldn’t understand what the big deal is. They don’t “listen” to the lyrics but their brain does. Eventually the switch gets flipped, in some kids, and the brain just regurgitates what it has been fed.
I got some serious 'splaining to do the next time I see him…
Don’t worry though, eminem will eventually be dead or forgotten, perhaps both and probably soon. I will bet dimes to dollars that some equally revolting tool will step up to take his place…oh boy, I can’t wait!
I think it is kind of funny how guys like him “sing” a good song/fight but when put in front of a judge they have nothing to say. It seems to me that if he truly believed in what he says and thought he was really all that, he would spout off to anyone…I think it just goes to show what a chickenshit he really is. If you are going to threaten someone with a gun that is not (allegedly) loaded, it must mean that you have no balls to back up what you say and have to rely on someone else’s fear of a gun to get what you need.

//omigod, I sound just like my parents. somebody find me a window to jump out of//

…And yet another generation manages to find music to disturb, annoy, and frighten their parents…

What self-respecting teenage boy is going to listen to music that his parents like, anyway?

"spoke- …And yet another generation manages to find music to disturb, annoy, and frighten their parents…

You know what the goofy thing is? This is the first thing that he has liked that I have vetoed. Most of the other stuff I hear before he does and turn him on to it. Go figure

Actually, my parents—both born in the 1920s—loved rock and folk music, so my sister and I never had any musical arguments with them. And (till she retired) my Mom worked in a high school, so she was always more up on the newest tunes than I was!
