Empire Earth and Majesty: opinions and/or tips

Empire Earth and Majesty: opinions and/or tips

I just picked up these two games from my sister-in-law and was wondering if anyone had any feelings about them one way or another. I have read the online reviews for each but you know you spot-on those can be. As far as the kinds of games I like, I am a huge Civilization fan but didn’t much care for Age of Empires. I prefer civilization building punctuated with wars rather than games where the goal is to rush-build troops and raze every building in sight.

Thanks for the help.

Empire Earth is basically Age of Empires: if I remember correctly, the designer dude is the same person. For me, it’s a toss-up between AoE and EE.

I prefered Majesty: more humor involved in it. However, there is no control over fights, since you have no direct control over any of your units. Sure, you can place rewards on things to encourage them to do something, but if only two level three thieves try to take on a level 9 vampire… can we say ‘carnage’ boys and girls? (And do you have the Gold edition, or just the original w/o the expansion pack? Expansion pack is nice, but at this time it isn’t worth hunting up just a copy of that.)

You may want to pick up the uber-citby builder pack (I forget the actual name). It comes with Pharoh, Cleopatra, Zeus, Poisidon, and Caesar III. Good bang for the buck, if you don’t already have 'em.

I’ve played “Empire Earth” a lot, and I actually prefer it over “Age of Empires”. The computer AI is a bit meaner in “Empire Earth”, which makes the game last a bit longer. Unlike “Age of Empires”, you can design your own civ in “Empire Earth”, plus it has a much longer scope than “Age of Empires”. My favorite custom civ is a nanotech-era civilization geared for cybers…it’s called “We Might Be Giants.”

Plus, I just LOVE bombing the hell out of my enemy with a fleet of 150+ bombers.

It is a completely different style of strategy game than “Civilization”. I like Civ3 a lot, but it isn’t really the same type of game that “Empire Earth” is.

For a good source of strategy tips for “Empire Earth”, I strongly recommend “Empire Earth Heaven”, part of the Heavengames network.

I’ve never played “Majesty”, so I cannot offer an opinion on it.
