I am going to NYC in June. Which building is better to go to the top to.
I realize the World Trade is taller but since it ain’t the tallest who really cares (besides I’ve been up to the top of the Sears Tower and John Hancock (in Chicago)
Which would give the better view etc.
Also on an aside, I understand you have to walk up the Statue of Liberty. How hard a climb is it. I am going with a lady who is pretty overweight and walks slow at ground level
Thanks
Mark,
Go to the top of the one you’re near to. The WTC is down by the financial district, the Empire State is closer to midtown. Harbor views vs. midtown. Ilike the WTC deck outside. The status isn’t an easy climb if you’re out of shape.
Most of the Statue of Liberty is covered by an elevator. IIRC, it’s the last 1/3 that are stairs, and there is a large platform about halfway up. The platform can be used as a rest stop and also serves as a spot to turn around for those who can’t make it all the way up. I also recall small bench-like things on the staicases. There are two intertwined spiral staircases, one for the walk up and one for the walk down. A word of caution: there isn’t much head room on these, I’m 6’2" and had to walk with my head angled toward the support pole.
BTW: I was in my mid-teens and a few inches shorter the last time I went to Lady Liberty’s crown.
