End-run my printer?

Hey all. I’ve got an Epson Stylus C60, and I’d like to print some documents in B&W. I’ve got no color ink. I know in the past I’ve been able to do this, but for whatever reason the newest drivers like to tell me it’s not possible. Looking on the epson tech support website, they, too, say this isn’t possible, because even when printing in black, the printer ‘uses a small ammount of color ink’. This isn’t the pit, so I won’t share my views on this statement, but I will say that it sounds like Epson is trying to rook me pretty hard. Anyone know if there’s an end-run around this problem? I have tried switching the printer via software to black and white only, but I still get the ‘no color’ problem message.

AFAIK, there is no way around, other than to try and roll back your drivers. Yes, it IS quite shady of them to force you to use color ink. They say it’s because it makes the balck look blacker, or something, but I dare someone to find proof that it’s not to get us to buy more overpriced ink cartridges.

Are you using win P? If so, then just go to system recovery and go back to a date before the new dirvers were installed.

I haven’t checked back with the other printer ink thread around here, but I wonder if the printer tracking required by color laser printers somehow hasn’t been implemented in inkjet printers, thus requiring the need for a color cartridge for a B&W print.
