Ending of Mud? (spoiler)[edited title]

Admittedly, I’m an aficionado of the great Oz movie, but at the end of Mud, when the little boy wakes up wondering where he is and what’s happened, he is surrounded by family who reassure him everything’s going to be all right. He indicates that he’s happy to be home again, and then, in the window comes Mud. The shape of the room, the positioning of the bed, the window and the actors, all seem very much taken from the parallel scene at the end of the Wizard of Oz. Mud seems to be the echo of Professor Marvel - i.e. the Wizard - and it all looks and feels very much like “There’s no place like home.” Any one else feel this? xo, C.

There are various things called Mud. Which one are you referring to?

I assume the OP is about the current Matthew McConaughey movie. It’s getting overwhelmingly positive reviews, 98% Fresh at Rotten Tomatoes at the moment.

I haven’t read the OP because I want to see the film and don’t want it spoiled. But it seems to me that the title of this thread is somewhat spoiler-ish and should probably be edited by a mod.

I read that the ending sucks (saccarhine) but the movie is worth watching. I like displaced misfits and precocious kids so will probably rent this a few months from now. (Poor people’s discount.)

I’m editing the thread title since it’s about a currently running movie, apparently.

I dunno that I’d call the end saccharine at all.

I mean, Mud doesn’t get the girl for one, and Ellis’s houseboat home is getting torn up. Yeah, its relatively happy, but not overly so

Personally, I didn’t get a Wizard of Oz feel to it (I guess it would be more the “beginning to the end” - I mean there is likely 20 minutes of film after that scene.
