Energy question II

Does mechanical energy released from objects go on forever (At least in the confines of this universe)?

Example: When you wind up a toy, you are putting energy into the toy derived from other sources (food). They, in turn, got energy from “x” and so on and so on. (My WAG, I might be wrong)

Now, when the toy runs, the energy is expelled as motion and heat. My question is: Where does the energy go? Is it put back into the universe as heat/energy and go on forever? Alternatively, is the energy just gone? Is this an endless cycle?

Thanks gang.

You are right. It is turned into heat, meaning that the air molecules surrounding the toy move faster. The difference may be negligible to us, but the energy is not gone.

Fernmeldetruppe is correct.

Almost all “useful” energy eventually winds up as a irrecoverable/wasted form of energy we call “heat.” The Science of Entropy deals with this issue on a universal level.
