English Bull dogs like to ride

What genetic trait is it that predisposes engligh bull dogs to ride things like skate boards, surf boards, sleds, rocking horses, motor cycles almost anything that involves riding? In most cases you can trace a trait back to a primitive behavior that may have become exagerated through inbreeding. I have no clue where this came from.

On second thought could it be the same trait that would cause a wolf to jump on the back of an animal and ride him till he dropped. Bull dogs were bred to bring down bulls by biting the lip so the desire to bring an animal down is there.

There’s a predisposition? Do they just get on things to ride all by themselves? I thought their low concentrated mass just worked out well when their primate friends put them on things to ride.

Australian Kelpies and some other herding dogs will climb on the back of sheep and walk over them. I thought wolves were more heel biters to bring down large game, though never really looked much into that. The most common killing method by dogs I know of is grabbing prey by the neck and shaking it to death. That’s usually smaller game but Irish Wolfhounds are alleged to kill wolves that way.

That was my thought, too. You don’t see too many videos of Irish Setters riding skateboards. I thought a bulldog’s low center of gravity would help prevent it from falling off easily.

I have a wiener dog that will ride anything. SeaDoo’s, motorcycles, the Jeep. He just doesn’t want to get left behind.

One of his nicknames is, “Go Dog”.

That sounds like more likely behavior, but I’ve never had an English Bull, maybe they do like to ride things. I don’t like wiener dogs, they are the most vicious breed of dog, and they have sharp little teeth that can really tear up your ankles, but having seen some of them they do seem to be dogs that like to go along with their friends doing anything.

English Bulls as a breed definitely show a stronger urge to ride things than most breeds. They will nock a kid off of anything they are riding and steal it from them. The dominance gene usually exhibits itself by one dog standing over the top of another dog, if that other dog were moving they will apply some weight to slow them down. I have a feeling this is where it comes from.

That makes some sense. So it’s a ‘me too’ thing like those evil wiener dogs, but a Bull is big enough to knock you off the skateboard.
