Whadda you know? Little ol’ me, sitting in Copenhgagen and jhust home from a party realizing the sun just rising above the horizon looks like a crescenr moon.
Damn thing about it, some girl stole my tobacco so I cant roll a cigarette for myself while watching.
I just came from watching it myself, almost 90% of the Sun was covered, and it looked beautiful. It made me realise one thing: At one point in my life, I have to experience a total solar eclipse.
Ahh… I’m awake again, thanks mostly to coffee. A bit hung over but not too bad. Sorry about the typos in the previous post. Good thing that party lasted so long, I would have missed the eclipse otherwise.
It was cool! The light was really strange and looked all wrong. I had this feeling that something was completely off about the scene. Not enough light for that time of day and those weather conditions. Made me realize how used I am to seeing the sunlight and the sun’s position through the day. The view this morning was almost alien - I couldn’t place it on my timescale and even though I knew why this disturbed me. If I hadn’t known the reason I would have had a much stronger feeling of alarm, that something undefinable was wrong.
I didn’t have the appropriate equipment for looking directly at the sun so I played it safe and just looked for a short while in the general direction and then closed my eyes to see the shape of the sun. It was quite an experience anyways. The idea that I could see the moon and the sun line up was quite moving. It puts things in perspective.
Here are a couple of links. Some of it’s in Danish.
Iteki - sorry to hear that! Hopefully you’ll make the next one…
Next solar eclipse in these parts is october 3, 2005. But june 8 next year we get to see Venus which according to the observatory in Copenhagen will be visible without any magnification. That should be exciting.
A lot of people didn’t bother at all. I don’t understand them.
