I recently had a trans vaginal and pelvic ultrasound and was told that I have enlarged ovaries. There was no mention of cysts. I have googled and looked on webmd.com and can’t seem to find information on what may cause enlarged ovaries besides cysts or a tumor. I had the ultrasound because I occasionally get severe pelvic pain which causes nausea and cold sweats, sometimes accompanied by fainting and/or vomiting. It usually happens after eating, but it is always after something I have eaten many times before. I’m assuming the enlarged ovaries may be completely unrelated.
Has anyone else ever been diagnosed with enlarged ovaries and did not have cysts?
The only recommendation I got was to get another ultrasound in six weeks, or to come in if I experience the extreme pain before that.
Huh. I’d imagine they would have actually told her that if it was the case. And I’m not sure what you mean by “benign”. While ovarian cysts often fade away on their own, AFAIK (as a long-time sufferer of ovarian cysts) there’s no way to tell whether they will disappear, or continue to grow larger and eventually rupture, until the cyst actually does one of those things. If it were a cyst, they also would likely have discussed birth control with her, as that will prevent cysts from re-occurring.
I totally sympathize with you, OhFace. Not only have I gotten many painful cysts, but one eventually ruptured, resulting in surgery and blood transfusions and many many trans-ultrasounds, as well as some surgical complications. So I feel your ovarian pain.
Thanks bufftabby! You made a good point about the birth control. I have a feeling it is not cysts, or they would have said something. I’m hoping it is at least related to my pelvic pain, otherwise I just have one more health concern to add to the list.
