I will say this for Legolas: if they want to be the first movie to gross more than $5 billion, all they need to do for the third one is call it “LOTR 3: WHEN ELVES GET NEKKID” (or LUCKLY LEGOLAS MEETS LUCKY LUKAS).
It could be worse:
A long time ago/
In the land of Shire/
Lived a brave little hobbit/
Who we all admire…
Aw, man, kickass! You should definitely start a thread about that one in CS, maybe somebody will tell us what it’s called so I can go see it too!
Well good point. However, if she’s gonna bitch about people getting excited and talking non-stop about something which they really LIKE.
Well, then she MIGHT as well bitch about human nature itself!!!
But, I’m just saying THAT in a much less clever way than some posters have already posted.
“Fad-dy THINGS” are gonna come and go,A LOT. LOTS and LOTS of people are gonna TALK about them. EVERYWHERE.
I guess it sorta seems like complaining about it raining.
(shrugs shoulders, it’s not like I had any emotional stake in my questions, they really were more curious ones, and then some random thoughts,LOL).
OR, if you’ve read or seen ANY sci-fi/fantasy these things are pretty universally understood, snort, hehe
Sure thing. You’ll get it Monday afternoon, after I’ve seen the brand new episode. The trailer looks very promising.
I’m with you Indygrrl. Drives me nuts.
I agree that you should have paid attention if you were interested in these things. When I saw the first movie, I not only had never read the books, I was so ignorant about the LOTR world that I didn’t know who or what any of the characters were or what the story was. I had no interest in LOTR. I was there because I was a Peter Jackson fan. I loved every second of it. While I didn’t catch everything in my first viewing, nothing was too complex or confusing that caused me to be frustrated. I just did some reading afterwards (partly here in the Straight Dope) to get a better understanding of the background stuff. Then I read the books myself.
For you to be dismissive of the movies (and books) because YOU were not paying attention (or, at the very least, not willing to let the story absorb you and save questions for after the movie) is pretty silly, and has nothing to do with the quality of the movies.
I think it’s pretty clear that the Hobbits are good. I can’t imagine how you could have gotten any other impression. The fact that “Sauron is in the ring” was stated quite clearly IN THE PROLOGUE (“in it he poured all his malice, his cruelty, his will to dominate”) and was stated again when Gandalf told the story to Frodo (“the ring and Sauron are one”). Were you talking or in the bathroom during these scenes? As far as Elves being immortal, Arwin’s statement “I choose a mortal life” should have been a clue. The opposite of mortal is immortal. At the very least, Elrond’s being in the Battle of the Last Alliance should have told you that they at least live a hell of a long time.
So, what was your beef again? That one of your friends “made” you watch it and that your attention span is so short that you had to interrupt “every ten minutes” to ask him questions? I feel sorry for your friend, who was trying to share a wonderful thing with you and obviously chose the wrong person.
I purchased the Fellowship of the Ring on DVD when it came out because it was only 15 bucks or some shit. I had heard how awsome jizztacular it was supposed to be so I figured that I would at least get $15 worth of entertainment out of the 2 discs.
I didn’t even get to the end of the movie. It was so boring to me that I just couldn’t sit thru to the end. My daughter, 3 years old, loved it. Lots of colors and scary stuff to look at.
Don’t get me wrong, I do like the medival, wizardry type movies. I am a big fan of classics such as “Barbarians”, “Dungeons and Dragons starring Marlon Wayans” and the all time greatest “Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome”. I just couldn’t get into this story.
I do agree that the jillion threads on the subject is annoying, but you have that on any message board. Go to the Xbox forums at Gamespot and see how many threads are on the first 5 pages asking “Which game is the best Xbox game?” or “How is the DVD playback on Xbox compared to PS2?”. It just comes with the territory I guess.
If we could only combine LOTR, Buffy, Monty Python, Douglas Adams, Star Trek, and Star Wars into one massive entertainment bowl movement and flush them all down the crapper, life would be good and the hamsters wouldn’t have to work anywhere near as hard.
After checking several movie development web sites, including corona.bc.ca/films (too lazy to format it) production of The Hobbit is ONLY rumored.
No money has been set aside for preproduction, no studio given the ok to start work on it, no script written.
Even TheOneRing.net the LOTR uberkin site lists no information about development of The Hobbit properity.
…
STOP SPREADING RUMORS!
Good lord this is how we got Reuters to run that story about Aliens 6
I’m sorry for all those who are sick and tired about all things LOTR.
I’m sorry because all one needs to do in CS to get a thread really going is ask… Do Balrogs have wings?.. or Who was Tom Bombadil? I think there must have been 50 threads on both subjects, and there will certainly be more.
In otherwards… the hype will never die…
Ack!!! Read that as “* Other words*”…
