Just wanted to note that depending on which OS you’re using, this may not work. For example, on my Mac, running OS 10.1, this brings up an IE contextual menu. Command-click and Option-click doesn’t work, either.

Right. But in the Buffy threads people use them for BOTH web spoilers and the current episode spoilers, and since one person may be having conversations about both the current episode and future spoilers in tandem, it’s simply too risky to to unlock any of them.

I HATE the spoiler boxes and the whinging about LOTR. For fuck’s sake the book is old, old, old and it’s utterly unreasonable to whine about being spoiled about the book if you choose to read the thread.
I think the spoiler boxes are a Good Thing in theory but it’s absurd to put in the title here be spoilers and then have most of the discussion in spoiler boxes so that people can choose not to click. Gah. If there’s spoiler in the title, then stay the fuck out of the thread or don’t whine if you read spoilers. If I were into Buffy, I’d feel the same way. Harry Potter and the New Insanely Long Tome – same deal, don’t read if you don’t like spoilers.

As far as spoiler boxes go, I don’t care whether you use 'em or not. Me, I don’t think I’ve ever used one. On the occasions I do post spoilers (in the Trek threads, typically), they’re either a) in a spoiler-titled thread and accompanied by a warning, or b) lies.
The only time spoiler-box use would annoy me, would be in a situation where it clearly WASN’T a spoiler; like if someone used one in an MPSIMS thread to describe a trip to the dentist. I don’t know if that’s ever happened; it’s just a f’rinstance.
