On the way into work this morning, I was listening to the Howard Stern show. They played an absolutely hilarious tape which purported to be a recording from the master board (???) at an Enrique Iglesias concert. Basically this was supposed to be a tape of Enrique actually singing into his mic, whereas the music the crowd hears is prerecorded. It was mind-bogglingly horrible, and God it was funny, but I have a few questions:
If you’re lip synching, why have a live mic at all?
Why would they be recording that mic’s feed?
Does anyone have any info about this tape and its authenticity?

So that the performer can talk to the audience. The assumption is that the mike is turned off when the performer is “singing” or lip-synching. If this tape is legit, the perpetrator left the mike on without Enrique knowing it.
Why would they be recording that mic’s feed?
Apparently, if this is legit, someone is either really pissed off at Enrique or trying to dick over the company’s management.

I forgot who got the tape, but one of the Stern show members said that it was from a very reliable source. Howard invited Enrique to appear on the show and prove he can sing.
Did you hear it? Make an effort, it’s worth it.
I remember another live feed of Linda McCartney was sent in to Stern, which he played. She was really horrible as well. Apparently Paul made a lot of enemies in the business.
Is the tape a hoax? Who knows. Maybe Enrique will have to go on the show to prove that it is.
Yeah, I heard the Stern show too. I think the show’s producers do the best they can to verify the source of their material, but even so you just don’t know if it is true or not. Milli Vanilli got exposed initially on flimsier evidence than this so I suspect if it is true that he can’t sing, somebody eventually will get unequivocal proof. Of course if the tape and story are a scam it is unlikely to go away but will become yet another urban legend floating around.
Yes, he even admitted that it was really his voice on the baaaaaad tape, screaming during the lip synch, and it sounded like crap because he can’t hear himself (it’s really hard to carry a pitch if you can’t hear your voice).
And he’s a fair singer. Not as good as his dad, but better than me.
