When I want to enter a value into Excel I have to enter it 2. Now it I want to add it I have to put =2+2 to get it to show 4.
Is there anyway to set a preference so that I can just type in 2+2 and have it show 4 as a result.
You can do this on Lotus.
Also when I copy from Excel and paste it into Lotus all the results come out on Lotus as a text. The numbers come out as '4 not 4. So of course they don’t add. Anyone know of a way to do this?
Don’t expect macros and formula to work on a translated spreadsheet. The commands are specific to the original spreadsheet.
As to your other question “I don’t know.” Most of the spreadsheets I work with will only interpert a formula as such and not text, if it is proceded by an arithmatic operative. =2+2 or +2+2 -2+6

Sort of like the original Texas Instrument programable calculators. Ass backwards.
Don’t you just love when the program knows what you wanted to type, and wouldn’t print out what you type. Such as =1/8 and the cell shows 1/8, because the program knows you wanted a fraction to show and not the decimal result, until you set the cell to format decimal places 4.
Give me the old spreadsheets anyday, and screw the intuitive ones.
