In a similar vein as the “what was the plot” idea, what was the climax of the episode?
Downloading. Basically they were hacking the enemy ship and downloading stuff. One of my friends made the comment that it was like trying to create dramatic tension out of downloading porn. “Only 10% more, and we get to see Capt. Janeway naked!” “We must sever the connection! The shields can’t take another hit!”
Thanks, NoClueBoy. I only joined to have my ego stroked.
I believe they mentioned that the Death Star was “possibly” causing the anomalies (always leave your plotlines open). So in a thousand years why haven’t the Xindis just blown 'em up?
I think it was cute that they were at a Trellium-D mine and didn’t get any because they didn’t know it was really useful. Why is it that Every person and Every thing encountered always has to fill in a piece of the puzzle? Can’t something turn out to be a red herring because you made an ass-umption? Can’t wait for Archer to beat the shit out of some poor alien and then find out the guy really has never heard of the Xindi. Or maybe he just needs some neuro-pressure.
You’d think they would try to go back to the previous mining colony and try to sneak past the 3 warships to get some of that mineral. Maybe the warships are too much for Enterprise.
And yeah, I’m not looking forward to next week’s ep: Extinction.
Cervaise, RikWriter, kasuo, etc: Okay, “Extinction” doesn’t look so hot in the previews. But remember the previews for “Cogenitor”? They made it look like some hilarious sex romp, and it certainly wasn’t. You never know. I just hope I’m right about this. I’ve got hope. I’ve got faith of the…oops, never mind.
I’ll be amused if the new NX-02 currently sitting in spacedock is named the U.S.S. Kazaa.
My preference re the mysterious sphere? This may not be a popular choice, but I’d love it if they never come back to it again. Leave it a mystery. The Expanse is supposed to be this weird and difficult region of space where people go in but rarely come out; there’s be all sorts of bizarre stuff floating around in the gravitational backwaters. Why do we have to explain everything? Besides, from a practical standpoint, what this team of writers can come up with is unlikely to compete with the multitude of alternatives I’m imagining, so it’s far cooler to let me have my frissons of “whoa, neat”-ness.
But, we haven’t met Blalock yet ( I mean Balok, sorry). And the Death Star existed long ago, in a galaxy far away, so it’s common knowledge. At least, it’s common knowledge now that we’ve got out into space to meet all sorts of really old and weird races.
HEY!
I think I did it!
I successfully theorised how Trek and Wars can coexist!
:dubious:
I got that impression, too – and I thought that Archer and Co. were perhaps going to try to destroy the Death Star before the episode was over, and end the anomalies in that region.
Of course it will – that’s a no-brainer! There will be some key missing piece of a puzzle – located in the 10% they didn’t get.
But when they hit the other ship’s engines – they had said that such a hit “might” knock down their main computer, not “would definitely”. Did Enterprise even try to continue the database transfer after that shot? Also, now that their ship is crippled, why not force the other ship into surrender mode, send over an occupying force, and get the rest of the database? (Then let them go afterwards, human morality and mercy and all that).
And didn’t the alien guy say something about “we tried to get out – you can only get in through that cloud, but it doesn’t let you out” or something like that. I presumed he was talking about the entrance to the Expanse. So then what about the video logs of the Vulcan ship from the end of last season that was coming out of the Expanse and the crew members were going all Event Horizon on each other?
At least there is a puzzle to be filled in this time around. Trek usually has the crew discover some new and awesome technology every other week which should revolutionize the entire human species, but by next week everyone’s forgotten about it. (“We can travel at infinite speeds, with the only side effect being that we turn into lizards – and even that can be cured by a hypospray!” “Yawn, what a useless technology. Let’s cruise around the Delta Quadrant for another 60 years instead.”)
Regardless, why are they not carving up the sphere and/or the pirate ship to modify their hull? As mentioned they were at a trellium-d mine last ep.
I didn’t see it mentioned yet (I admit I scanned a little) but did everyone notice the prisoner say that they are trapped by the cloud they entered through? The nebula whatsit? Has Enterprise “gone Voyager” and now must survive on their own in the Delta Expanse?
What I don’t understand is how they’re trapped in an INFINITELY LARGE THREE DIMENSIONAL SPACE. I hate it when writers ignore the fact that these are starships in space, not navy vessels out in the Atlantic. There are always ways to go around.
That would make too much sense. This way they can have an episodes in which they all turn into pretzels or have the head magically morphed onto their ass.
Yep – I commented on it two posts above yours. And I noticed it, but not really buying it. After all, at the end of last season, we had the video of the Vulcan ship coming out of the Expanse and turning on each other. Presumably to convince us that the Expanse is ScarySpookyBadPlace. (even though Hoshi hasn’t tried to disembowel Travis yet, and T’Pol still hasn’t gouged Archer’s eyes out…)
… or maybe the prisoner alien didn’t mean that it was physically impossible to leave the Expanse, only that you can’t get out of the Expanse and retain your sanity.
