Enterprise Future Tense Spoilers

Well, all those not lucky enough to have Canadians TV are in for a good one.
This episode throws out a lot of ideas and the delivery is quite good. Probably the one of the best, if not the best episode this season.
Either way, the 8 minute Canada only Hoshi striptease scene made it all worth it. To bad that type of stuff isn’t allowed on American Tv… Well, except HBO. They’ll show anything…

Do the Tholians look good?

Yes, they completely fit up to all expectations and do not dissapoint at any level, don’t you think so carni?

snicker
You’ll see what I mean after watching it.

 You know, what’s the point of declaring a Spoliers thread if you’re not willing to spoil anything? :stuck_out_tongue:

We only see the Tholian ships, dammit.

I did enjoy it. Not great, but good. Time travel in it’s place in the plot, not the major story which is outstanding coming from this crew.
Continuity with TOS and this series…
The Vulcans get there ass kicked. A moment with T’Pol reminescent of the Vulcan ship that was lost in “The Doomsday Machine” or the giant ameoba thingie, I forget which.

I was glad that they finally shed the flaccid tentacles of heteronormativity, and let Malcolm come out of the closet. I mean, we all knew already, anyway (the whole tough-guy façade had always been pretty halfhearted, after all), but the scene where he broke down and brought it all out in the open was just so touching. And it was good that his crewmates were so supportive.

Also, it was good to see Travis go on that killing spree. Can’t say I blame the kid, either.

ARGH! I can’t watch this ep til Sunday! CURSE YOU, FATES OF EVIL!

Well actually, it’s my own damn fault but I’ll curse those Fates anyway…

So yeah, this ep seems to be an improvement. I hope after sweeps, ENT won’t revert to the boring stuff of earlier this season.

A couple of thoughts:

What interests/conflicts could the Tholians have with the humanoid species? We fight over the Earth class planets, they take the Venus like hot ones. It’s not like we’re going to argue over the view of a glacier or something. Why would they get involved in a temporal conflict?

Did we see the Tholians in TOS or just theor ships? Why were they in this episode? I got the impression is was just to provide continuity with TOS, which is ok, and I guess we’ll see some Tellerites soon. I hope Tripp can keep his pork cracklin’ jokes to himself.

Does Malcolm like to blow things up, or what?

I’m getting a tad annoyed at everyone kicking Star Fleet ass. I hope Malcolm invents photon torpedoes soon, and Tripp shields.

Memo to self: Do not invite Tholians over for pleasant after dinner conversation.

third try to get something through

It’s a freakin’ TARDIS!

Hey, anyone else think the corpse looks like Robert Picardo?

I was thinking Lon Chaney or the Suliban guy…

In this episode, I thought the story was well-written and well-paced; the mystery and action tied in together quite well. I even thought some of the dialogue was good, between Phlox and T’pol, and Malcom and Tripp. I also happen to like how Star Fleet always gets creamed. I thought the human from the future having all those alien nucleotide sequences was a nice touch, and T’pol’s reaction was excellent.

One thing I didn’t like was that if Archer is willing to keep and study the futuristic vessel, shouldn’t he be willing to extract all sorts of tactical information from Daniels’s console? Or is there some other reason that he only consults it to fix the timeline? Other than that, I’m surprised at the lack of inconsistencies.

I know Archer is supposed to be pausing while thinking of what decision to make, but for some reason it often looks like Scott Bakula’s trying to remember his next line.

I’ll quit picking on him for a minute and say that I liked this one and hope they’ll continue coming out of that long, long slump they’d been in since last fall.

kasuo: I’d mail you a tape–I make two–but by the time it reached you it would be close to Sunday. But maybe not, if I could get ahold of one of them fancy time-speeder-upper thingies. Didn’t we have this conversation already? Hadn’t we done this whole thread a few years back?

And now, just for NoClueBoy, per his request in the “Cease Fire” thread: spoiler challenge! Hidden in the black box is a bunch of stuff and it’s up to you to figure out what tiny bits are accurate and what is actually crap. *BTW, your tape is ready if your cuz didn’t record the ep.

Archer fed Porthos some bad semisoft cheese and the poor pooch blew chunks all over his quarters. As punishment for being fifteen minutes late to duty, Travis had to clean it up. In the meantime, Phlox reported Hoshi unfit for duty due to a severe hangover. Archer and T’Pol entered Daniels’ quarters on a tip from Cutler and found a sex dungeon where Travis and Hoshi had spent the whole night. T’Pol wanted to seal it off, but Archer said, “Not so fast…” 'cause he wanted to discuss the possibilities of humans and Vulcans mating someday. Malcolm and Trip crawled through the bottomless future ship and wound up in the galley, where Cook bombarded them with rotten fruit when he thought they’d seen him spitting in Archer’s soup.

P.S. Hi, Kn*ckers!

Oooh, get a load of the teaser for next week, “Canamar.” Prisoners. Male prisoners. Male Starfleet prisoners. Violence. Blood. Archer and Trip. Probably sweating.
Mmmmmmmmmm…good.

Yeah, didn’t they call next week’s episode an “Enterprise event” or something like that? And it is a bit strange that they give the title in the preview. Why do you think it’s so special?

Thank you, CP.

I thought the episode was very well done; as others have already mentioned, there was good continuity with TOS. I don’t believe we did see the Tholians on TOS, btw, just their ship (that was The Tholian Web episode, I think). There seems to be increasing sexual tension between Archer & T’Pol – I’m not sure what to think about that! I am more and more enamored of Dr. Phlox too. Love that big grin (and I’d better not go there about the tongue …)

Will have to give this episode a second viewing on Sat. night, and probably tape it too. I do hope that they’ll have my Tellarites in an episode soon.

—Lots of Spoilers below—

Yeah, not so bad again this week. Woohoo! The Great Candy Store of the Future that is Crewman Daniels’ quarters invariably irritates me, and I’m not so into the whole Temporal Cold War thing, but it coulda been lots worse. There could have been pyrophobic Klingons.

I liked the time-repeating thing, cause it was cleverish, though it was really frustrating at the end when Archer and Malcolm were trying to work all fast to get the warhead out, and they kept having to redo it. Point of interest - If you don’t have Obsessive-Compusive Disorder, and you want to know what it feels like, watch that scene. It’s really freaking stressful to be in a hurry and to have to do things over and over. Never have I seen OCD so well expressed.

Also regarding the warhead scene - was anybody else reminded of the episode when Malcolm was nailed to the hull, and was trying to walk Archer through disabling the mine? Man, that was a boring scene. This one was better.

Here’s something I found funny (in a sad way): When they were first looking over the Future Ship of Wackiness, I was all pleased that Trip asked Travis what he thought of it. “At long last,” I thought, “someone’s interested in Travis’ opinion!” But, as it turned out, he only wanted to know if it could be a cargo ship. Which seems to be poor Travis’ one and only area of expertise. Boy needs to broaden his horizons.

Didn’t see the teaser for next week, but I’m hoping it’s everything viva suggests… (And Hi to you too, viva! ). I’m all in favor of sweaty male Starfleet prisoners. And how not surprised will I be if Trip ends up in his underpants again? Very not surprised, that’s how much. Not that I’d mind!

Ahem. Sorry 'bout that.

Hey it was good-- that’s 2 in a row. When I was watching I remember thinking- hey it’s a Season 1 episode.

I liked how Malcom thought that they should tell the bridge before playing in the amazing expanding ship. Of course Trip the amazing mental midget didn’t do it. . .

Tholians sure didn’t like the Suliban. Notice they didn’t destroy the Enterprise or the Vulcan ship- though it seems clear they could of.

Next week looks like a return to the Season 2 themes. How many times have they been in prison already?
:smack:

I knowit’s just TV, and I knowthey do things just to move the plot along, but Trip just grabbing the “Black Box” and sliding a few batteries… I mean power modules… no, batteries into the front of the thing and it just turns on. (I do like how the got the whole “Black Box” angle dead wrong though.)

I mean it’s tech from “about 900 years” in the fututre. “Are those the biological circuit thingies they invented in Voyager?” “Yeah! Let’s mess with it!” It’s like we took a cell phone and threw it back in time by 900 years and the smart guy in the Monestary says “Hey! Lookit this! I think it’s a book! Let’s plug it into an ox ('Cause that’s what they used for power in the 1100’s, oxes! Look it up!) and see what happens!” Then they call for take-out pizza when it fires up.

“Hyperspanners” are just metal tubes.
“Microcallipers” are just regular callipers that you use as pliers.
These future tools are hard to keep track of.

Have you noticed T’Pol’s hair? It’s getting pretty long. She has to push it over to the side to keep it off her lips. Don’t you think the Vulcan High Command is going to be a little cheesed when they notice she ain’t sportin’ the approved Vulcan 'Do? (We all have the same hair for the last 400 years and we like it!) Pretty soon she’ll have little pig tails. Then she’ll have to ditch the catsuit and start wearing a jumper or something. And knee socks. And shiney black shoes. And a lollypop…

Everytime the Suliban show up, I think they have a lovely cinnamon scent and are covered with a creamy icing. You can get 'em at the mall by the dozen. Is that just me?

Carni, the Tholians are into the whole Temporal Cold War because one of the Future People want to adjust an asteroid’s path waaaaay in the past and it turns out that keeps them from ever being born. But you didn’t hear it from me.

All in all, I really liked this ep. They did stuff, got shot at, shot at other people, flew real fast, and Phlox was in it a lot. What’s not to like?
