Entertainers who "got out of their lane" and failed

Re: The Dixie Chicks

Yeah but IMO that’s not “getting out of their lane and failing”, that’s just taking the consequences of not playing along with the “shut up and play” attitude towards entertainers and athletes.

Oh, I agree, and should have made that clear in my response to the earlier post. They didn’t “get out of their lane,” at least voluntarily. Up until that time, they never took any political stance. Afterwards, however, they became a bit more outspoken.

And after “the incident” in 2003, their next album went gold in its first week of release, with a single from the album going to number 4 on the charts. Then they won 7 Grammys for the album.

Wikipedia states " By July 2020, with 33 million certified albums sold and sales of 27.9 million albums in the US, the Chicks had become the best-selling female band and best-selling country group in the US during the era (1991–present)."

Quite a punishment for stepping out of their lane…

They also didn’t release another album after that one for another 14 years. Part of that was a hiatus that they took to spend time with their families, and they did tour several times in the intervening years, but I do wonder if the backlash that they suffered for their statements played a role in that period without an album.

Reminds me how people still seemed to tolerate Kanye West’s craziness, until he started openly supporting Trump and he lost most of his fanbase.

Interestingly enough, Eddie’s song was remixed in the 90s or early 2000s and is still a popular song for DJ’s to play. I never sought out the original song, and now I am thankful I never did!

That was truly craptastic.
