Can environmental changes cause a migratory animal to take a different route than it usually does? Or, if environmental changes cause the usual route to be closed off, does the animal just not migrate? For example, if the river the animal usually crosses is now too deep, does it just turn back, or does it move upstream until it find someplace it can get across?
