I thought about including her, actually. But I decided against it partly because I didn’t want to overdo the options; partly because I figured that most people would have be visualizing Blanchett, Otto, & Tyler from the movies, and few people would have a mental image of the actress who played Rosie; and partly because I wanted to leave the meaning of “A, B, or C” ambiguous. Rosie is so minor a character that, while some might say, “Hey, that chick who played here is hot!” nobody was likely to say, “I want to be her.”
She would be my first choice, too, but Sam would kill me if I tried anything.
Who knows anything about Arwen anyway? AFAIKR, she doesn’t get a single line of dialogue in the books.
You should have. Tell you what, throw in Mrs. Maggot, too. They can have a 34.5 while I’m busy with the other three.
Not if you are from West Lorien.
She says one or two mildly trite things at the very end, when everyone is all about to leave Gondor, doesn’t she? Can’t recall, and as I’ve proven in other Tolkein threads, my mind isn’t as sharp as it once’t was.
My choice: Galadriel. Not saying what for, or why, or even what question she is the answer to.
Boy, that’s a toughie. Each of the actresses who played Arwen, Galadriel and Eowyn in the Jackson movies has her charms, to be sure. Hmmmm. Think think think. From both the books and the movies, I think I’d give the edge to… Arwen. She’s described by Tolkien as quite beautiful, calm, wise and generous. Galadriel’s so old and powerful that I think she’d be a bit intimidating. Eowyn is beautiful and spunky but just never caught my imagination the way Arwen did. She also has an emo side that doesn’t appeal to me. That said, frankly, I think “Arwen” is one of Tolkien’s least attractive female names.
Incidentally, in What Exit?'s LOTR D&D game thread, now on hiatus, my character has long been wooing Arwen’s second daughter, Gilraen (this is 60+ years after the fall of Sauron). My mental image of Gilraen is pretty much Keira Knightley, FWIW.
Sorry, had her all through high school… … TRM (and her five sisters!)
She speaks in “The Tale of Aragorn and Arwen” in Appendix A (to which I made a glancing reference in post #28). Some of the “added” Arwen scenes in the films were based on this short story, although the time span was rearranged and greatly compressed.
Eowyn.
I don’t know what elf lady-parts are like. At least we know for sure that Eowyn is a woman.
Eowyn, absolutely. Girl is beautiful and fucking badass. Galadriel and Arwen can go their fading elf act somewhere else, thank you.
Sure we know what elf-lady parts are like. There were several marriages between Elda and Adan (or Dunadan), all of which resulted in children, if I recall aright. Elves are biologically human; their greater lifespan and superior (in some ways) physical attributes are due to a difference in their spiritual nature.
So, I forget: Have we done an “Aragorn, Faramir or Boromir” thread yet? Any takers? Feel free to change up the names as to your pervy predilections.
You are an evil, evil man.
Please? Can someone start this?
Decisions, decisions. When in doubt, see what gloss the Harvard Codex has on it:
Gotta count that as a vote for elves.
[sub]OTOH, it just doesn’t seem likely that the Codex guys would have known what to do with a woman if they stumbled over one on the way to the dorms.[/sub]
Dearest Mika, It’s not really clear to me why you or well, he’s back didn’t open it, but it doesn’t matter. You know I can deny you nothing. But I had to add Eomer, as he’s at least as important as Boromir (if not more so) and also to compensate for the fest of wankitude that is movie-Aragorn.
Actually I like Viggo’s performance quite a bit. I just felt like typing fest of wankitude.
I didn’t open it for a number of reasons, not least of which is I rarely open threads around here (or anywhere) anymore. I don’t really like being the “parent” of a thread anymore.
I’m sure you have your reasons. It saddens me, though, that you made no comment on the phrase fest of wankitude.
