Equivalence point question - Chemistry. NOT hw.

I’m teaching AP Chem for the first time, and I have a question from our textbook-on-a-flashdrive. See picture: http://i.imgur.com/xr56IeI.jpg

How can it be titrated halfway to the equivalence point, and have the molarities be equal? I’ve found this “book” being wrong before. But I suspect there’s something I’m missing.

Thanks.

Got it, sorry. I’d delete the thread if I knew how.

Half the acid has been converted to the conjugate base, and so their molarities are equal.
