Sorta puts a new take on the song.
Pony boy, pony boy
Won’t you be my pony boy
Giddy-up giddy-up giddy-up whoa
My pony boy

Ride with me ride with me
Won’t you take a ride with me
Underneath the starry sky
My pony boy

“Pardon me while I have a strange interlude.”-Marx

Omigod, I LOVE that song! I have a tape of Ada Jones singing it, but the chorus on mine goes—

Pony Boy, Pony Boy,
Won’t you be my pony boy?
Don’t say no, we will go
lead a life of joy!
Marry me, carry me,
Off across the plains—
Giddyap, giddyap, giddyap—whoa!
My Pony Boy!

—Now I’m gonna have that running through my mind the rest of the night . . .

I have not heard this song. Is it old, is it new?

Who is Ada Jones?

The recording I have is from 1909, but I don’t know how far before that the song dates—it’s a very bouncy, catchy tune.

Ada Jones was one of the most popular recording artists; she made hundreds of records between 1905–20. You can find some of her stuff at www.tinfoil.com.

Bruce Springstein covered this song. I almost fell off the sofa when I heard it the first time. I wonder if it was originally meant to be double entendre?
