Eris Slays Xena, Dysnomia Born

Hail Eris, Goddess of Discord!:

Okay, Eris is a damn fitting name, I have to say.

But “Dysnomia”? I find it slightly amusing that the word also refers to a short term memory disorder where people can’t remember names (among other things), because there’s no way I’m going to remember it isn’t named “Xena”.

Hail, Eris!

Given all the trouble it caused for Pluto, Eris is an inspired name for that thing.

I’m a little sorry I didn’t get to start this thread, but my happiness about the naming more than makes up for it. I’m geeked out. And if you have to name anything Dysnomia, it would be a moon circling Eris. I’ll do a short reading from the Principia before I go to bed.

And as the Bad Astronomer pointed out, going for Dysnomia ties in with the Xena name - we’ve got a moon named for the goddess of lawlessness orbiting a planet temporarily named after a character played by Lucy Lawless.

Reading up on Eris, I think it’s also appropriate that it has a very eccentric orbit. Now I just want to know how they spotted it through all the fnords.

He He. That’s just genius. Well done the astronomical community!

Great choice, I really like it.

Say, what happened to erislover?

:smack:

I totally missed that!

And now I’ll never forget the name.
