Essential services are disappearing.

The local Health Inspector resigned a few weeks ago and the city government doesn’t plan to replace her, due to budget constraints. So now there is no one to keep the restaurants in line or do the other things a Health Inspector does.

According to the local newspaper most towns have one Health Inspector for each 7,500 people, so this town should have about four of them. Before she resigned, our ex-inspector had been doing the work of 3 people. She once told Mrs. Duality that she wouldn’t eat at any of the local restaurants.

This is a relatively poor community in a state which has a sizeable budget surplus due to mineral severance taxes. But the state government is overwhelmingly Republican and no aid is forthcoming from them.

I believe this is an example of local budgets being squeezed to the breaking point because of unfunded mandates from the Federal government.

It’s the wave of the future in your town as well, if Republicans continue to dominate national politics.

Thanks for letting me vent.

Tell me about it.

All 50 States are facing budget crisises.

But John Q. Dumb-Bass still won’t vote, or even keep abreast of the issues.
