Ether Smell...Help

I started thinking about the smell of ether when a banana fell behind the microwave a few days ago. By the time I tracked it down it was a very very bad banana. The entire time I was searching for the source of the ungodly smell I was reminded of the operations I had as a child that included the use of ether. I’m allergic to bananas and even the smell of a fresh banana makes me a little queasy. That’s the tie in to the ether. A sweet, slightly banana, acrid smell that makes me queasy just to remember it.

For any Dopers that know me, dont worry…I really was going to experiment. Especially since noone suggested an interesting one.

And thanks for the tip about Dreamcatcher. I think I’ll wait until my library gets a copy. While I enjoy King, his last few “monsters” just havent had the zing of his early critters. I still enjoy his turn of phrase and the people in his head but his monsters are getting to a little too New Age for me. I prefer my monsters with fewer morals.

The banana smell isn’t ether, it’s an ester - isoamyl acetate, actually.

Not exactly ChemDraw, but it’ll do

But then, we’re talking about sensory association, not chemistry…
