Dear lord, I think I’ve died and gone to heaven.
Etta rocks! I’ll be setting my VCR for this one.
Off to Cafe Society.

Crap. I missed it.
saw it. Been a fan for a while now, but I only know the 50’s R&B stuff and the 60’s Chess stuff. She comes to town & performs once in a while but I’ve never managed to make it. So I’m completely unfamiliar with anything she’s done in the last 30 years.
So, wow, it was a little unsettling to see this woman, who to me is and always will be a brash young thing with huge attitude & lungs, sitting on a chair, looking ancient and frail, and straining a little to hit the notes. It was like stepping out of a time machine or something.
I missed it?
Her rendition of My Funny Valentine is the best, bar none.
I have a compilation of her early material (“Sunday Kind of Love” is such a terrific song), her “comback” (7 Year Itch, IIRC) and her latest (Blue Magnolia (I think is the title)) and wishd I had taped the show. She has every right to look ancient and frail as she’s lived a very rough life. Here’s hoping she’s around for awhile longer.
I love Etta james!
Did she sing? My favorite song by her is At Last.
Ah, me too, Bubble Girl, me too.
I got you all beat. I saw her perform live last year at the Baltimore Art Scape. For free. I camped out for eight hours to get front row seats on the hill in front of the stage.
There are simply no words. “Sunday Kind of Love” has always been my favorite song, and when she sang it, she sang it. That woman is The Mother of the Blues.
Of course, “At Last” was amazing too. I called my best friend on my celly before as she began and just held the phone out so he could hear it. We both died and promptly went to heaven.
