Help me understand the prefixes and root word of these two terms, and any similar words.

Without getting into a political debate over Rendition, there are:
Rendering (the process of rendition). “Bobby was rendered by the CIA to the Syrian Secret Police.”
Extradited “Bobby was legally extradited from Italy to face a legitimate legal process in the United States.”

“Rendition” is from “render” meaning “to deliver,” from French rendre, “give back, present, yield.”
“Extradition” is from Latin, “ex-” (“out”) and “traditio” (“handing over”).
So, etymologically, they are synonyms. The both mean to hand over. However, “extradition” has a more specific meaning in law. It’s the handing over of a person pursuant to a formal legal process in which one government asks another government to deliver someone into its custody. There are treaties dealing with proper procedure for extradition and there are lots of laws on the matter.
IANAL (I am not a linguist, in this case) but, I do have a subscription to the OED at my disposal. So.
Rendition is actually from the obsolete French word “rendition” coming from the verb “rendre” which is “to return”. There is no root as such.
Extradition is also from the French. However, this one does stem from Latin and thusly the root can be traced. Ex (as in out) + traditio (deliver/surrender/handing down)
