Where does the word “ska” come from?
I just ran into this one PRI’s ‘The World’ a few days ago, actually. Weird.
Here’s what dictionary.com has to say about it:
And that jibes with what I heard on the radio. With the distinction that ska was created as a response to american R&B and Blues in an attempt to create a black music form that was distinctly Jamaican.
So this guy would say, “Love skavoovie!” when he walked up to someone?
Hm. “Love skavoovie” = “I like the sound of a rim click and a guitar”. Isn’t that like greeting someone by walking up to them and saying, “I like pie!”?
Johnny LA, don’t even try to understand the mysteries of Jamacian patois. Why do they say the things they do? Because they do.
