Eureka! I have found it!

No not the city, silly! I’m pretty sure I know where that is…

My old non driveable car (broken frame) has been sitting in my driveway for over a year. I was dithering, trying to decide whether to fix it, sell it or junk it. Its over 15 years old now, just an old Sunfire so it would have cost more to fix than it was probably worth.

Eventually I bought a new old car - which in itself ending up costing me more than it would have cost to fix the old one…but, oh well. My brother had a couple of mechanically inclined acquaintances who expressed some interest in buying it to repair, but none of that panned out.

Now I will be moving soon (waiting for the foreclosure hammer to fall), my roommates have already moved out, and its time to get rid of this car. But I couldn’t find the title! With all the moving, packing and shuffling around going on, I started looking for it in earnest - but to no avail, it was not to be found! My brother thought it was possible to sell the car to a junk dealer even without the title, my son thought that was possible only if it didn’t have a motor…who knew for sure? It certainly seemed that if only I found the title those possibilities would be moot.

I gave up. I decided I was just going to have to go to the title bureau and get a replacement title. I googled to find out where I had to go and how much it was going to cost me - only 15 bucks! Well, even 15 bucks is more than I wanted to spend for something that I knew that I had, dammit! But it had to be easier than spending any more time going through all my old paperwork which was getting pretty frustrating.

And while I was sitting at my desk, googling away, I happened to think of the old wooden mail holder that’s been sitting on my kitchen counter for many years, reduced to being just a catchall for odds and ends of ‘stuff’ - old receipts, coupons, pens, etc. Hasn’t actually been used for mail for a long time and had become one of those things that are right in front of your face everyday to the point of becoming invisible. I thought, ‘hmmm, sometimes I stick things in there that I don’t want to lose or might come in handy someday - maybe I should check that…’

I did. And guess what I found?

Whoohooo, congrats! Now you can finally get rid of your car

Now if you could come to my house and find the goddamn keys to my fire safe, I’d appreciate it.
