I’m in the U.K., and we’re well in the shit. There’s massive unemployment. The official figure is 2.5M, but there’s been massive fiddling of that figure over the past 30 years by governments of all hues. It would not surprise me if the true figure were nearer 4M. There’s fierce competition for even McJobs. Right now I’m feeling that it would have been better to have let the banks go bust.

Who’s doing the rioting over there today? Students of all stripes… or the usual suspects?

According to the agents to whom I speak, there’s several hundred people applying for every IT job. I’m guessing you have a rare or in-demand skill.

It might be regional - here in Oxford we’re crying out for IT talent. Seriously, getting the right person for nearly every job we advertise is like pulling teeth. Maybe it is about specialisms, but I’m surprised how few suitable people we get applying for the positions we’re posting. And we’ve got something like eight unfilled vacancies at the moment.

Then I’ll bite! Are you looking for a good IT support guy or IT support team leader? I’ve not been able to take any exams recently, so my certifications are poor, but I’ve a broad rather than deep experience, and on actual service, I’m top-notch. I’ve worked in Oxford before - at Capita - and enjoyed it there.
