Europa 1440: The Guild ...any one playing this?

Hi all,

A few months ago I picked up this quaint-looking interesting ‘simulation’ game of the medival times. Though I like the premise of the game, the learning curve is too steep for me and the games keep crashing…

Anyone else has experiences with this game? Any tips or strategies to share?

I’ve played this game off and on, but I haven’t for at least a couple months, so I’m a bit rusty.

The game itself is fairly intuitive after going through the tutorials. But as a beginner, I definitely recommend starting out in the herbalist profession and the beginner’s town. This profession is a little easier to make money at because you don’t have to buy any ingrediants for your alchemial recipes, you just hire 2 additional workers to go out and scour the land for herbs. Have the original worker stay at the shop and make potions that are then sold at the market square. Before long you’ll be making a hefty profit.

With the profit you will buy improvements to your shop, throw parties to influece coucil members, hire spies, buyout your competion, impove your skills, and hire guards for your shipments amongst other things.

To gain rank, you can approach it from several different avenues. You can blackmail other council members in to voting for you or against one of your rivals. You can throw lavish parties that help people like you better. You can marry in to another influencial family.

Once you’ve mastered these basics then you can move in to a more challenging city that has more competitors, limited resources, and tougher opponents. You may even choose to work your ranks up in the church, become King, or turn to a life of crime as a robber baron.

Also note that age is a factor and eventually you will die, but you can continue on as one of your children if you have any that survive.

Overall, it is very fun game and highly recommend it if you enjoy medieval simulations where you can do almost anything.

Sorry about the bump, but I just got this game this past weekend. Somehow I was unaware of it for the past 18 months it’s been on the market, and I’ve spent nearly every waking moment playing it and I’ve gotta talk about it to someone who knows what it is.

Does anyone else play this?
