Europa Universalis II

I just picked up this game, and I have two questions:

  1. How do I retreat from an ongoing battle? (You’re supposed to be able to, but I can’t find the “button” or the like, and hence my armies are successful or exterminated.)

  2. Do you know any good resources on zie net? (Yes, I know how to google, but the game is old and my hits are bad.) Like fine FAQs with links not broken down by age.

Just click on where they want to go. Assuming you have morale, they will disengage.

Paradox Interactive used to run (and probably still do) a board for this game. This company is famous (or is it infamous  ) for adjusting their game long after it has been released - and for making it easy to fiddle with. It was pretty active with many mods and adjustments. For EU2, I liked the Byzantine Empire mod…great fun.

However, EU3 is out. I have it and is more fun IMO. In EU2, you have to hamstring yourself to make the game challenging - not play a big country, only allow your reputation to be high etc. In EU3, I’ve had my butt handed to me more than once.

I play EU3 over EU2 now, and I recommend it.

You see I beg to differ - I have EU3 and have tinkered with it but it’s really not got me engaged. If I wanted an EU fix I’d probably go back and play EU2.

Maybe I need to try out EU3 a bit more, as in fairness I’ve played less than about two hour’s worth of gameplay.

Go for 1.7 patch. I didn’t like 1.8 but that’s just a personal preference. Basically your army will retreat on its own. There’s no real active army management since the game is really suppose to be about grand strategy

Check out the paradox forums and look read the After Action Reports (AARs). I always like the ones by Peter Ebbesen.

Thanks, all.

I noticed that my armies got annihilated when losing, while the enemy were retreating when losing. Blinking Duck is right, in the “map field”, you click the army and point to another province, and the army will retreat.
