European posters

Why so many European posters on this board? Is the Chicago Reader, Cecil Adams, a huge success accross the pond? I’m not against it nor critical of it, just curious as to it’s popularity over ‘there’. Thanks

Chris

I was told that http://www.straightdope.com was a cool site . I had a look , spent a lot of time reading the archives. Asked a question and was sent here. I don’t think it’s that well known as anything other than a web-site . It might be different on the mainland but I would say that the majority of Europeans either just came across it surfing or were told about it by someone who came acr… well I’m sure you can work out the rest.

Welcome to the USAww, now available in the rest of the w

Off to MPSIMS.

We’ve got the internet in Europe too now. But I gotta log off, I have to feed my hamster that’s running the threadmill to keep the computers power flowing

Yeah, I’ve just to go boil the kettle too. Damn steam-powered PC.

The Chicago Reader isn’t, as far as I know, available in the UK, and nobody I’ve ever met has heard of Cecil Adams. All of the major papers here (the UK) run their own Q&A columns, with the most notable being The Guardian and its Notes & Queries section (website http://www.guardianunlimited.co.uk/notesandqueries/index.html).

I can’t remember for the life of me how I found this place.

There is a site called

http://bored.com/ie.html

Which a friend recommended and I just looked around.

I think it was printed on a mouse-mat with a load of other sites.

BUT

that really should be

http://www.bored.com/ie.html

Yep, same thing here. I was bored and someone suggested http://www.bored.com and there was Cecil and my life was complete. Then I found the SDMB and I haven’t been bored since.
