Euryale ferox in the water garden

After several years I was able to obtain Euryale ferox again for the water garden from Perry’s.
It is a tiny thing, much smaller than the weedy plants I had and sold on Ebay.
The @#$%^! turtles (1) were biting off the stems of leaves, so I made a cylindrical cage of chicken wire to protect it. Why don’t they eat those damn hard lilies of whose name is legion?
Hey, “mundane and pointless” it says on the door.

(1) Formerly known as “Cute little baby turtles” in the Plant household.

Hey, I don’t know how to help with the turtlings, but am glad you introduced me to a plant I don’t know. Great leaves there!

I forgot to mention, the leaves are covered with thorns as are the buds. 40" across, although the largest I ever got was 32", before Mrs. Plants Sheltie jumped onto it.

The turtles are just trying to make a living, as is everyone else, Water Gardener, Straight Doper or Republican. The young ones tend to eat more veggies than the adults and bite off the leaves.

I’ve been fortunate enough to see three spotted newts this year.

Like I said, mundane and pointless.

WOW, that’s a gorgeous flower!!! Really beautiful.

Have you ever grown nymphaea cerulea?

No, a white Hermine I’ve had for some time, a pink unknown cultivar that took over the lotus pool where E. ferox is, and a couple of lotus. Various marginals and of course the native carnivorous plant Utricularia gibba.
