I had hoped to e-mail this to you, though I’m sure you’ve heard. (You seem to have a direct link w/ St. Peter regarding new initiates.) Gosh, no e-mail link below your posts. Anyway, since the board members look to you to break the news of the newly deceased and to console them with your deep compassion (Diana comes to mind) I’ll let you sit my fellow dopers down and break it to them gently. Me? I’m gonna listen to “Boom,Boom,Boom” now.
O’Connor:
Sad news for anyone who watched the original “ALL IN THE FAMILY” and laughed out loud at the true “meathead” of the series. He taught us a lot about bigotry in the early tv awareness days.
And John Lee:
I don’t have “Boom Boom Boom Boom”, but I can hear it in my head, and my eyes are misty. Shit!
Gather 'round boogie chillen. <sigh> I was fortunate enough to see John Lee Hooker last year here in Phoenix. Most folks may have only seen his cameo in The Blues Brothers or only heard the bazillion white guys who copied him. John Lee was the real deal and they don’t make guys like that anymore.
Caroll O’Connor is another end of an era passing. In this day of anything goes television folks don’t realize what a groundbreaking show All in the Family was.
Ironic. I finally got a copy of Pete Townsend’s Musical “The Iron Man”. John Lee Hooker does the Iron Man in it. You know, Heaven is going to be a great place with all these great musicians up there.
Carroll O’Connor always reminded me of my grandfather. Looks as well as personality. Although my grandfather isn’t a bigot like Archie was portrayed.
It is really starting to suck that now the actors that I watched as a child are starting to die.
Man, this really sucks.
