Jesus, and I’m not even that much of a party animal, and I hate cold weather, but it was still awesome. Being one of the drunk idiots some of you are complaining about probably helped
Also, I bet there is an amount of money that you would accept to go
I lived on 44th and 10th in 1999, in a high rise building. We had a building-wide party on the roof with a perfect view of Times Square. This was also, of course, Y2k, and I worked in tech so we half-expected the city to go dark at midnight. Alas, the lights stayed on… Helluva party though.
Was there…perhaps early '80s? Way before the fear of terrorism had police snipers stationed on every rooftop.
As others have said, it was not a great experience. People were throwing beer bottles in the air (and at us), and there was a stench of liquor and other unmentionable things. Crowded, deafening, yet kind of thrilling to be there.
Still, it was too much, and we were on the train going home by 11.
Nope and nope. I won’t even go to the local tree-lighting gig at Christmas, as I really hate crowds. The only big event I ever went to was the Rose Parade in Pasadena. I was 20 years old and my girlfriend convinced me to go. Meh.
The short answer is no. The longer answer is FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THAT IS DECENT NO. I can’t imagine a situation in which I could intentionally do that.
I went once - long enough ago that it was manageably crowded and only moderately crazy.
It went off about as expected. The only memorable thing was encountering two different people that I knew, but had not connected with for a while (~7 months and 3 years, respectively).
Quite unlikely I’d go again: the crowding has increased and my enjoyment of such has declined.
