We’ve stayed at Shanghai Mansion in the heart of Bangkok’s Chinatown as a weekend getaway. It’s an interesting area to explore and nice to do so without the hassle of having to get into and back out of these particularly heavily congested streets.
Once, and not by choice: but had a blast doing it. January 1994, we got hit with a bad snowstorm in Kentucky. It was so bad that they closed the interstates. I worked at a hotel in downtown Lexington, and they told us that if we could come in, we could bring a suitcase of clothes and stay until the roads cleared back up. So I did. They gave us rooms, fed us, and I got quite a bit of overtime that week because I was one of the few PBX operators there. It was so much fun.
I haven’t stayed in any local hotels but I do get asked for recommendations occasionally (I’m
a taxi driver).
My standard response is “why would I know what local hotels are like, I live here”
Said with a smile of course.
