Ever get that sinking realization that you're a huge hypocrite?

I was born into a republican family I was raised in a republican , methodist family. I liked Nixon. I voted for Reagan. I voted for Bush the honest one. I am not not republican or methodist. I could not bring myself to vote for Gore the Big Chemical guy, or Bush II, ( the better part of him ran down his mommas leg) so I voted Nader. fine lot of good that did. Next time I voted Kerry, just to get King George out. Fine lot of good that did me. So anyway, back to topic, we are all hypocrites. Anytime I want to know what is really pissing me off about my wife I look in the mirror, because she is acting like me. We all view others in the light of ourselfs, and none of us measure up to perfection. Well a few do, and they are called psychotic. Realiziling that one is hypocritical if not a bad thing, it is a step toward beng a better person. I got a few hundred yards to go…

and remembering to check for typos would be another step.

Yeah, I’m a hypocrite. I used to be morbidly obese. When I was fat I used to say that it’s character not personal appearance that counts. I deplored people who discriminated against the portly. Then I had a gastric bypass and joined a gym. Six month after the surgery, I’m down from a size 26 to a 12 (and still losing - gonna keep going til I reach size 8.) And guess what? Now that I’m almost slim, I find I’m prejudiced against fat folks. I’m not proud of it, but it’s true.

You totally mis the point, pehaps by design. It’s not Foley’s actions that reflect badly on the republicans, it’s their failure to deal w/ it and possibly trying to cover it up that’s the problem. More than a bit hypocritcal in view of a “family values” platform.

Anyone else find it ironic that the OP’s revelation was standing back and realizing “woah, I got stuck in the “our side vs their side” irrational political knee-jerk reaction, and I was being a hypocrite” and the response to the threads are people who are having our side vs their side knee-jerk reactions?

I like to think of myself as a brave person of integrity, but I have to admit I have been a hypocrite due to cowardice.

I don’t like to categorize people by race. Because of this, I usually check the ‘other’ box or ‘decline to state’ when asked to give my race. If the form permits checking multiple boxes, sometimes I check off several of them. However, when it came time to apply for a home loan, I checked ‘white’ because I thought it would give me a slight edge.

Another thing is my dismay and outrage at our government’s recent suspension of habeas corpus and embracing of torture. If I had the courage of my convictions, I would make some kind of protest at work. Nothing disruptive, just something to catch people’s attention. But I don’t want to risk losing my job or being passed over for promotion, so I don’t do anything. Okay, I sometimes quietly bring up the issue with my coworkers in hopes of getting their support, but it doesn’t amount to anything.

Yes, but not this year. Vote Democratic, hold nose as necessary.

The difference will be 2 years of arguing how soon to leave, as opposed to 2 years arguing about how long to stay. Troop levels will remain unchanged. :smack:

Er, did I say ‘Not this year’? I meant ‘Yes, this year too’.

Fuck it, hold your nose and vote Democratic.

I’m not asking this to criticize you, but merely to understand: Did you know Matt as Maddy? Or, are you suddenly having trouble calling Matt ‘he’ now that you know that he was once a female? If it’s B, that is sort of difficult for me to understand; it wouldn’t be as though you’d seen him in female clothing, etc.

Oh yes – I knew Matt as Maddy for about four years.

Wellll…some folks may be saying this. Frankly, I’m voting Republican because all the Democrats are doing is saying, “Hey, vote for us. We’re not Republicans”.

But I’ll be holding my nose as I do.

I’m a feminist with a subscription to Vogue. :o

I came to the conclusion that if you watch anybody long enough. You’ll see them do something hypocritical. Anybody. Well, except for me, that is.
Hey, what are you all looking at?
