My sub-genius level dog can detect evil: anyone on that side of the fence. Anyone on this side (or who comes through the gate) is immediately cleansed of all suspicion.
My very intelligent late cat was evil himself, but he did not try to detect evil. Rather, he detected people who were uncomfortable with, or allergic to, cats, and made them the center of his ‘affection’.
Dogs have instincts and premonitions about people, just as people do.
And are wrong just as often.
As with “psychics”, we tend to remember the accurate takes and overlook the erroneous ones.
Teddy loves everyone. When the UPS truck used to pull up, he’d jump in.
And everyone seems to love Teddy. It’s really remarkable. He is the K9 Avatar of Cool.
