I actually read about it some time back, in a book on alternative medicine, of all places.
Astral hearing and sight. It’s based on the notion, your body’s spirit or astral body can surely hear and see when it leaves your body. So why not use it, especially when you suffer from deafness or blindness?
I was always skeptical of it. And I am even more skeptical now, especially since I am becoming more and more a staunch materialist. But it is interesting. And there have been alleged document cases of it.
In particular, I saw a case on TV, when I was still quite young, possibly in grade or high school. There was this boy in another country, born without pupils. And because of an alleged miracle, he could now see. Me, I still don’t know. But I recall, he was smiling at the camera, almost as if he was seeing now.
And is there anyone you know that could benefit from it now? Tell them about it. What’s the worst that could happen?
The worst that could happen is that they get their hopes up and waste a good deal of time and energy on a phenomenon for which there is no reliable evidence. Actually, that may not be the worst, they might end up giving astral “evidence” in a murder trial that condemns an innocent person to death (I have no preconceived notion that no judge or jury would ever countenance this kind of “evidence”).
You don’t have to be a materialist to reject this notion out of hand, just a skeptic. Your sources for your apparent willingness to suspend your higher brain functions are laughable – you read a book once, and you once saw something on TV that you sort of remember where a blind child smiled, so maybe it’s true. Are there any reputable studies? Is there any experiment that could be replicated where this has proven to be true? Is there any evidence of any kind beyond wishful thinking? (spoiler - no.) Why not mind reading and bending spoons without touching them, while we’re at it? If you wish to appeal to the gullible, I think you may have picked the wrong environment.
That is not a documented case-that is a pretty much untraceable tale. if that is your standard when it comes to evidence, there isn’t much we can do to convince you.
You know, this isn’t Great Debates or General Questions. It isn’t even IMHO.
It is MPSIMS, which is meant for light-hearted banter. And funny things you want to share with people.
No criticisms meant for any of you personally . But speaking just of your replies, they are actually the ones are rather misplaced here. As I said, they would make more sense in a different part of the boards. I’m just saying.
In that case, I find the banter regarding Astral Hearing and Astral Sight light-hearted and wish to share this funny thing with others!
In reality, if you don’t want people to push back on the woo that is posted in this forum, then you might as well post in GD and tell everyone that you’re witnessing.
Sure, I know people who could “use it,” if it were an actual, real thing. A friend of mine has gone blind from complications of diabetes. My father is nearly deaf, due to aging, and hearing loss caused by driving an Army tank for three years. If “astral sight” and “astral hearing” were real, actual things, then of course it would be of tremendous benefit to them, among many other people.
But, astral sight is up there with all sorts of other metaphysical/supernatural stuff that credulous or hopeful people want to believe in, but usually wind up being methods for obtaining cash from the gullible.
Of course I’ve heard of astral hearing and astral sight. Used them myself, many times. My 8th level Elven magic-user was particularly good at both, and it got me out of some tight jams.
In related news, in case anyone here missed it, there’s going to be a total lunar eclipse on Wednesday morning (May 26). That’s going to be an astral sight!
Even in MPSIMS you can’t simultaneously encourage folks to tell their deaf and blind friends about this thing you don’t believe in, because what could go wrong, and claim you’re just sharing a funny thing with light-hearted banter. It’s grotesque.
Sedona AZ is pretty new age/woo. Every time we go through there I feel the need to get my aura photograph taken. Not so much because I’m into woo, but because Kirlian photography just sounds so cool.
