Ever Mistype A Complete WORD?

I don’t mean misspelling, I mean the actual word is wrong.

Happened jut a few minutes ago in my Tyler thread in CS, and it’s happened before. I typed the word “okay” when “ago” was what was needed.

A lot of the stuff (short-term memory loss, etc.) going on with me is because of the dementia, but I don’t know for sure if this is a symtom?

Thanks

I do this on a pretty regular basis… ‘our’ instead of ‘the’ being the most often. Most times, the words have nothing in common and are totally wacky.

No memory problems that I’m aware of though… my brain thinks faster than my fingers can type and I wind up tripping over my thoughts.

Gee! I wonder if that has ever has happened to anyone here on the Dope?

Oh man, AHunter3. I was hoping that was what you were linking to. Classic.

And yes, I’ve done that both in writing and occasionally verbally. My favorite example was when I was a teenager and a friend of mine meant to say “I should be a kicker for a retarded* football team” and somehow actually said, “I should be a kicker for a deflated volleyball team.” It was years before I could get through telling that story without absolutely dying of laughter.

In typing, my muscle memory seems to often override what I mean to say. For instance, I work in a marketing department, so every time I want to type just “mark” or “market,” I will type “marketing.” I can’t think of other examples right now, but it happens often enough to be annoying.
*I know. But it was many years ago and neither of us would ever use such phrasing now.

That’s my main way of making typos. I do it when writing, but not often speaking.

All the time.

Wait until you start typing completely different sentences than you try to. The fox ran from the hound. = Dog go box up tree. The mind thinks one thing and the fingers type something unrelated. It’s frustrating, but I haven’t had that problem for a few years now. I also know what letters go with what sound now, which I didn’t for a time. It makes it impossible to even write it like it sounds. Then there is the word structure. I don’t do as bad as I did. Sentence structure like this was for the longest time.

Obligatory XKCD link

It’s pretty common I think. Just a couple postings ago I typed “would” instead of “one could” (say that out loud). My brain intuited something wasn’t right but it took a couple of sweeps over the text to spot the actual problem.

Yes, I used to have to make call logs as I was talking, so I got able to type what I was hearing as I heard it … so every now and then I will be typing in chat in game, or writing and email and end up inserting random words into it, or changing a word to one that looks and sounds similar but is entirely unlike what needed to be there…as something in the conversation or on TV caught my ear … :frowning:

I do it both in typing and in speaking. My friends find it funny to engage me in conversations when I am tired, hungry or distracted because I end up substituting words in just about every sentence. I think they may be compiling a book to blackmail me with…

On.
