Everett Ruess mystery solved! (Everett who?)

(this thread for the 3 other Dopers who’ve heard of him…)

As the LA Times article says, “His name might not rank with Amelia Earhart’s and Judge Crater’s, but the disappearance of Everett Ruess has been an enduring legend of the Southwest for 75 years.

If you’ve spent any time the canyonlands of the southwest, or if you read Into The Wild (or you’re a Dave Alvin fan), you’ve heard the tale. Troubled young artist, disenchanted with the modern (?) world, wanders off into the Utah desert and never returns. I didn’t think they’d ever find him.

I spent five days in Grand Gulch with two archaeologists. I know about Everett Ruess.

That trip might have been the coolest thing I have ever done.

That’'s one…:stuck_out_tongue:

Two. I remember the story from Into the Wild.

What Brynda said. Three!

I love Dave Alvin! I remember the story from Into the Wild, too, but Ashgrove is one of my favorite albums.

Thanks for posting this, blondebear.
