But yes, please, tell the kids about screenshots (and thank the heavens the internet was nonexistent or in its infancy when I was young and dumb). I’ve said it before, but they should be learning about all this stuff at school, along with media literacy. The fewer educated adults forwarding me spam and getting scammed on Craigslist, the better.
I saw an amusing video of this once, I can’t remember the exact details but it was something like a webcam equivilant of omegle, someone had linked up a static photo of a cat with, er, the hammer of damocles dangling over its head and made it appear as his webcam somehow.
Then he’d type “tits or the cat gets it”. Worked occasionally, assuming the video was real. All in good humour.
No one underage in it either. I should imagine that that risk is overblown.
Oh me too definitely! But then I’m not 14 so I don’t really know what’s going on their heads. I’ve never come across any stories of dog shenanigans to be honest. It’s mostly stuff replicating sex acts that they’re after. Still no less sick, mind.
Yeah, this just kinda happened on 4chan recently, except without the blackmail.
Girl was complaining about her body, got talked into posting pics, she was made fun of, pics were sent to her family, and they got her dad’s phone number and called him to tell him about it. Pretty horrible all around. Which is basically /b/'s MO.
Hell, even adults fall for this. I knew a guy whose AoL account was suspended due to a complaint from a woman regarding nude photos of said guy sent to her–after she had asked said guy for them!
Remember that one story about the kid in WI (I think) who pretended to be a girl at the local high school, then got a bunch of boys to send him pictures of their junk, then blackmailed them? He even got some of the boys to perform sexual acts on him because the girl he was pretending to be was threatening to show the pics and to tell them about the sex acts they’d engaged in. It was a pretty fucked up story because it went beyond silly cyber-threats, the kid actually knew these people, and got pictures of boys from the high school blowing him.
It was kind of fucked up. I should probably Google what I’m talking about and link, but I’m too lazy.
