Ever since Diana, Princess of Wales died, there’s been speculation whether Prince Charles would be able to marry Camilla Parker-Bowles in the Church of England. Charles is free to marry again in the church, but Ms. P-B is divorced, with her ex-husband still living, which normally causes some difficulties when re-marriage comes up. Re-marriage after divorce is permitted in some cases in the C. of E., but since Prince Charles will someday be Head of the C. of E., the question of marrying a divorced person raises eyebrows.
True, modern kings find their love-lives sadly hampered by those pettifogging lawyers and all their silly restrictions. Given that Charles won’t actually have any power, he couldn’t even adopt the simple tactic that King David used to get rid of Uriah the Hittite.
Does anybody else appreciate the horrible irony of Charles’ situation? While Diana lived, he wasn’t free to marry at all. Then unexpectedly she died; he’s free; and he’s in love with a divorced person whom he can’t marry (maybe).
I think Bess will hang on until Charles is so old he doesn’t even know who Camilla is. Poor guy. Poor (rich) family.
