Examples of family casting good enough that you noticed

I never thought that Kelsey and David Hyde looked anything like siblings either, but… I do think that DHP looks an awful lot like Kelsey Grammer looked when he first appeared on Cheers (skinny and a full head of hair), so that has to count for something.

Jack Cassidy playing Ted Knights brother on “Mary Tyler Moore”.

Wasn’t there some TV movie from 1980 where Sophia Loren played herself and her mother?

That was a bit of a running joke on the show. That Niles looked like how Frazier USED TO look. When Sam Malone was visiting Seattle from Boston and met Niles for the first time, he said something along he lines of “He looks just like you did… What happened to you??”

Niles and Frasier looked like they could be the type of brothers where Niles clearly took after his Father’s side of the family and Frasier probably looked more like the people on his Mother’s side.

I haven’t seen the movie, but I agree. You could cast those two as identical twins and I would believe it.

Most Americans wouldn’t pick up on this, but, aside from the twins, no two members of the Weasly family have the same regional accent. They’re from all over the British Isles.

I never saw any resemblance between Krause and Hall on Six Feet Under. But the first time I saw the promo poster for Dexter, I thought I was looking at Peter Krause.

Similarly, I didn’t see David Hyde Pierce & Kelsey Grammer until watching a Cheers rerun when Grammar was thinner & younger. Then it was uncanny how much they looked alike.

If we’re including aged/younger versions of the same characters, I have to go with the guy they got to play the young Henry Hill in Goodfellas. They did a transition from his face to Ray Liotta’s as the older Hill and I was stunned at the good resemblance.

In Four Christmases - Reese Witherspoon and Kristen Chenoweth play sisters. They should always play sisters in every movie they are in.

No one has mentioned the Bluths in Arrested Development!?

Gob and Buster particularly look like brothers, and Michael and George Michael in particular look like father/son.

I second the mentions of Roseanne and D.J., and Conroy, Hall, and Ambrose (Krause not so much but if you try hard you could see it).

Tempestt Bledsoe, Vanessa, on The Cosby Show really looked like she could be the daughter of Bill Cosby and Phylicia Rashad. Denise and Sandra, no. Theo and Rudy, maybe.

Also, Jane Curtis (Kate and Allie) could definitely have been the mother of her two – Frederick Koehler and Allison Smith. Amazingly, Susan Saint James and Ari Meyers worked pretty well and mother/daughter too.

But if you take their parents and rearrange their features with no overlap, you get Sam and Dean.

Just caught the episode of Three’s Company titled Lee Ain’t Heavy, He’s My Brother, which has a good example of it - John Getz, who plays Jack’s brother, Lee, looks very much like John Ritter…from certain angles, especially when he’s smiling. Which is a very sibling-type resemblance.

The worst example of supposed family castiung was all those blond daughters on “Full House.” Both Danny and his dead wife Pam had very dark hair. Yet the daughters all look like Joey.

I think Danny should have demanded some DNA tests.
