Excellent Mash Up: AC/DC's Back in Black, reinterpreted as a Funk song

This totally works on so many levels. Youtube Link.

Some youtube whiz took an AC/DC performance video and Brian Johnson’s vocals and dropped in a funk arrangement for the underlying music.

I love how the song sounds as a funk tune and am amazed at what technology can enable the imagination to realize. I wonder how tough it was for the person who did this to bring it together - how long and how precise do you have to be with your editing to sync this stuff up?

That’s pretty damned good. I’m probably biased, though - I love funk, and wouldn’t mind everything being a little more funky.

Have you head Thunder Busters?

Dope Beat by Boogie Down Productions

An actual hip hop song done during the 80s using Back in Black.

Oh yeah- it’s also well-crafted, and the song is cute, but more of a novelty. This works as a fun mash-up, but I also dig thinking about the song arranged this way - it’s just an interesting musical exercise…

KRS-One going all Run DMC/Beastie Boys, eh?

Very cool! I just wrote to the head of the local School of Rock suggesting a genre switching show.

One of my favorites like that was at a Schuba’s “Hoot Night” themed on “Guilty Pleasures”. One did “Purple Rain” as covered by Johnny Cash (this was long before the American recordings like “Hurt”).

Hearing **Social Distortion’s **punked up version of Ring of Fire, or Mike Ness-as-a-solo-artist’s version ofDylan’s Don’t Think Twiceare excellent re-interpretations, too…

That’s cool and made me laugh, Wordman…thanks!

This smooth jazz version of Enter Sandman is pretty darn good too.

That’s hilarious. Love the comment: “I think I’m going to grab a glass of red wine, sit by a fireplace, and gently head bang.”

According to legendary funkologist, Bootsy Collins, it’s all about it being on the one. Back in Black is one of those songs where the emphasis is on the one, so it makes sense.

Smart. Really obvious once you pointed it out.

Oh good lord that is hilarious. But given all of the turmoil that Metallica has gone through, e.g., *Some Kind of Monster *revealing their upper-crusty warts and such, it is hard not to look at it as more than a little mocking.

::snicker::

Thanks for that. I had never heard of Mike Ness but now I have Cheating at Solitaire and Under The Influences. Great stuff.

Indeed. I am a Social D lover and his stuff is just a variation of that. If you don’t have any Social Distortion, I can’t recommend them highly enough - consistent and great at what they do - the AC/DC of punk/cowpunk/psychobilly - I just think of them as good rock n’ roll.

Ring of Fire
Ball and Chain(sorry for the ad up front, but the song is worth it)
Prison Bound - stick with it 'til it switches from piano to full band 1:30 in…

that’s outstanding!

After watching that (which was excellent), I also watched this - Smells Like Teen Spirit (Reggae Version). I LOVED it!

Fun - of course there is a whole universe of these on Youtube that I knew nothing about. Some are well done like most posted here - many are fun ideas but poorly executed.

ThisBossa Nova version of Iron Maiden’s The Trooperis excellent.

Another great mashup: Bryan Adams vs. Metallica.
