Exchange Question

My Exchange server stopped receiving and sending messages because the disk was overloaded. So I had everyone clean out their mailboxes and archive messages. This cleared up about 30% more free space. However, the file that holds the messages hasn’t gotten any smaller and the free disk space hasn’t budged.

I can look in the mailbox resource window and see the reduction in size.

I had them archive the messages and placed the file on another server with more space.

The file that I believe holds the data, the only file on the server with the kind of size hasn’t moved in size either.

When does the change take effect? Do I need to restart the server?
