Execution procedures poll

From the Washington Times:

“Unlike Virginia, which specifies a date and time for executions, Maryland announces the week an execution will take place. The clock starts ticking at 12:01 a.m. Sunday. The exact time of the execution is chosen by the warden. The witnesses will be alerted three hours before the execution. The inmate will not be told until an hour before. The time is kept secret because of a 1922 law created to avoid the mob scenes that once accompanied hangings.”

Suppose you were the inmate; would you want to know the exact date and time of the execution, or would you rather not know until it was almost time? (FWIW, this stems from a debate I had with Mrs. KVS.) Personally, I’d rather find out ahead of time.

Exact date and time. Somehow, the uncertainty seems more horrible than having a defined countdown clock, plus I’d like to know when to have that last visit with my loved ones.

I would rather not know until it was almost time. If I knew the exact date and time, I think the anticipation would kill me. Which I guess would save the cost of the executioner.
