Exhausted Vet student here

You would think vet school should be easier than med until you realize the number of species you have to treat and all the crazy physiological/pathological difference between species/breed.
Get tests and labs every damn week, dealing with stubborn cows and horses.
And we must be examined on at least 7 species in less than two weeks for finals.
Tired and cranky and I feel like I need a strong drink and a long nap. :frowning:

Moving thread to MPSIMS.

I’ve always had enormous respect for vets because of that. Not only is their education so much more difficult, but their patients can’t tell them where it hurts. (Nor do human doctors generally have to worry about being bitten!)

Good luck to you.

Bitten, schmitten, if you mean at the kitten level – try getting chomped by teeth made for masticating tough roughage AND being stepped on/kicked by a one-ton beast wearing steel on its hooves.

Vets rock!

Indeed.

PapaNaja DVM has friends from school who couldn’t get into vet school… so they went after an MD instead :p.
It’s a long, hard road. Good luck to you.

What year are you? The hardest periods for me was the second semester of my 1st year and all of 3rd year.

I have some friends who are vets (large animal) and they are just amazing.

You can do it!

Remember, its not a sprint, its a marathon. (our favorite saying in law school). When you feel like you’re at your limit, just keep putting one foot in front of the other.

I’d bite a human doctor. I would! Ya gotta create that element of danger, just to keep 'em on their toes.

I bit the dentist once when I was a kid. It was an accident. Sort of.

My son matriculated at the U of I in September 2005, declaring a pre-veterinary major.

It lasted until the reality check of his grade-point average at the end of the year. It really IS harder to get into vet school than it is to get into med school.

So he switched his major to pre-pharmacy. Think of it, America–your pharmacist may be somebody who couldn’t get into vet school, but who could get into pharmacist school.

Hang in there, BluePitbull; there’s always pharmacy school if you burn out.
